Squamous cell carcinoma. SCC is the second most common form of skin cancer behind basal cell carcinomas. It appears as a thickening of the skin that becomes a lump, often scaly and itchy with an open sore. SCC is caused by exposure to sun or ultraviolet light and should be removed before it has the chance to spread and become a life-threatening form of skin cancer.
